Frequently Asked
Which NC Residential Code edition applies to pool permits?
The 2018 NC Residential Code remains in force. S.L. 2025-2 delayed the 2024 code until 12 months after the State Fire Marshal certifies set conditions, though an owner may request the 2024 code. Barrier rules sit in Appendix AV.
When does a North Carolina pool builder need a state license?
For projects of $40,000 or more, the builder needs a license from the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors, such as the Swimming Pool specialty classification, at the Limited, Intermediate or Unlimited level.
Are your North Carolina pool plans sealed by a North Carolina-licensed engineer?
