What a Alaska set has to satisfy

Tell us the city or county in Alaska, the pool type and which drawings you need. Include any project checklist or review comments so the scope can address your specific submission.

Request a fixed-price quote for your plan set. The quote sets out the included drawings, revision allowance and estimated delivery date before work begins.

Plans are sealed by a Professional Engineer licensed in Alaska, who reviews the package and takes responsible charge before applying their seal.

Alaska pool permit requirements

The state-level rules your drawings are checked against. Cities and counties can add local amendments, so send the jurisdiction with your enquiry.

Residential code
No mandatory statewide residential code; municipalities such as Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau adopt their own IRC editions, and AHFC-financed homes must meet the state BEES energy standard.
Pool barriers
Set by local ordinance in municipalities that adopt and enforce building codes; no state pool barrier statute.
Contractor licensing
Construction contractors register with the Alaska Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing; general contractors doing residential work need a Residential Contractor Endorsement, with no pool-specific license class.
Public pools
Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation regulates public pools and spas under 18 AAC 30, Article 5 (18 AAC 30.500 to 30.590) statewide except the Municipality of Anchorage, which runs its own program.
Engineer licensing
Alaska State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors (AELS)
Questions

Frequently Asked

Does Alaska have a statewide code for residential pools?

No. The IRC is not adopted statewide for homes. Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau and other municipalities set their own codes and pool barrier rules, so drawings follow the adopted edition of the permitting municipality.

Who approves a public or commercial pool in Alaska?

Alaska DEC regulates public pools and spas under 18 AAC 30, Article 5, everywhere except the Municipality of Anchorage, which runs its own pool and spa plan review through its health department.

Are your Alaska pool plans sealed by a Alaska-licensed engineer?

Yes. A Professional Engineer licensed in Alaska reviews the package, takes responsible charge and applies their seal. You receive a submission-ready set for your Alaska jurisdiction.
